I have HUGE soccer fans in my household! My husband played soccer all through his life in Germany and continued socially when he moved to South Africa and somehow my sons are already obsessed with the beautiful game! Every afternoon when my husband is done, they are out in the garden or the driveway kicking a ball around. So, of course it makes sense that a soccer party would be a big hit in my house. And with the popularity of soccer at an all-time high with kids right now, I’ll bet it would be a big hit at your house too!
The beauty of this theme is that you can use it for a birthday party, but you can also use it for an end-of-year team party, for the Qatar 2022 World Cup party, or even just a playdate. Soccer is a theme that can really be a hit with kids of all ages, boys and girls!
Where do you host a successful soccer party?
My biggest tip is to call your local soccer club to inquire about renting their fields for a party. This way the scene is set and you don’t have any clean-up to do. Most soccer pitches rent them out for minimal fees and a bonus is that the kids can get outside and exercise off all that cake! We called Fives Premier League in Randburg. And wow! We were not disappointed. For a small fee they team up with Supersport United Soccer Schools who send over a very qualified coach to do drills and games with the kids for an hour. The kids were absolutely exhausted from all the entertainment making them ravenous for food and drinks afterwards.
The weather forecast for Sebastian’s birthday left little to be desired. There is an old wives tale that if you put a broom into a tree the night before you won’t have rain on the day of an event. I did this on the Friday night and boy did they rain gods not disappoint. The weather was spectacular for a Soccer Party. I will add that should it have rained so much that the party couldn’t take place, Fives Premier League had offered the undercover section upstairs or vouchers for another day. They were most accommodating.
Suppliers of the big items take away a lot of the stress
The elements of Sebastian’s Party spoke to who he is. He LOVES the German soccer team so we used the colours of black white and green and threw in the Gold and Red for Germany. A soccer theme is very easy to do because a lot of the party decorations are available for purchase at any of the party shops around. Fives Premier League also offer a few different party options from DIY to a complete party set up for those busy moms who really just want it all taken care of.
We went with the DIY option. For the base of the party we had one very bright green soccer table cloth decorated with Soccer Balls. This was the main treat table which displayed the Cake. The Cake was an absolute beauty as Straw-ba-berry always produce. Kirsten, the baker, took in all the elements of the invitation and even cut the little red man in Perspex to make sure he was on the cake too. To compliment the cake I had Bears Bakery design the most gorgeous biscuit medals in Gold, each personalised with every child’s name on AND Jess, the baker, had the ribbon made bright green with soccer balls on it. The kids were delighted to receive a medal at the end of the day! And even better to be able to eat it.
Inexpensive DIY Soccer Ideas you will get a kick out of!
The basic decor consisted of black table cloths, placemats (which were printed soccer pitches in green and white), cups and plates (From Party Land) and soccer boy cut outs also from Party Land. The little red and yellow t-shirts were cut out with red and yellow cardboard and used together with toothpicks for labels for the different foods and items. Clever little soccer names placecards covered the tables. Tarryn – my DIY designer best friend had the brilliant idea of making little soccer balls out of polystyrene balls and confetti out of cups, 7’s and S’s to finish off the tables. We decided to put water on the tables also with a little Sebastian’s party sign. These, the kids took to the field with them to make sure they stayed hydrated. No party is complete without a Pinata. I managed to source a giant Soccer Ball which really finished off the activities. And then the gorgeous party packs. I went with plain black water bottles (R13 each) and customised each one with every child’s name on, included with this was a packet of chips, chocolate and soccer ball sucker. the items were secured in cellophane and tied together with a “Thanks for kicking it with me – Love Sebastian” sign. It was simple, elegant and can be used over and over again. Maybe at their next sporting event.
Along with the invitation we made a photo frame and a sign welcoming everyone to Sebastian’s Soccer Academy. These are Simple DIY pieces too and are easily customisable to any theme you have. When deciding how to finish it all off I put orange cones on the tables and giant soccer ball and trophy balloons. These I found at a local thrift shop for R50 for 5!
Besides the extra skilled soccer games the kids played they enjoyed a giant blow up soccer ball. Not only did this orange ball bring hours of fun at the party but it also brought hours of fun at home. It did eventually die after a winning soccer kick into an electric fence.
Fives Premier League are the perfect venue!
Fives Premier league provided us with a Pizza and soft drink bar. They also have a complete bar and menu for any additional orders you require. Their amenities are clean and comfortable and even if it rains you will be sure to be covered in their giant deck area overlooking the fields. The staff are professional, kind, friendly and definitely know how to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The food itself is absolutely delicious and they can cater for all dietary restrictions.
I have signed my children up to Supersport Soccer at the Fives Premier club. After this party I realised that it is a fun and safe sport for the kids to enjoy while mom or dad can watch or work from the comfort of the deck.
Soccer at Fives Premier League will never go out of season and a Soccer Party will most certainly never go out of style!
